For those of you that love to spend time in the kitchen, you can turn that desire into and exciting and rewarding career. You can get the skills that will turn your career into what you see on those professional cooking shows. By earning a Bachelor’s degree in Culinary Arts, this can give you the necessary skills to be able to become a professional chef, run your own kitchen, or even own your own restaurant.

This degree will prepare you with the necessary skills to be able to work in a kitchen for a restaurant or hotel as a professional chef. You will be able to begin your career in a variety of industries preparing food for them. You will also be trained on how to manage and run a restaurant.

During your studies, you will need to successfully complete a variety of courses in both food preparation and management, including the following: Introduction to the Hospitality Industry, Food Preparation, Purchasing, Sanitation, Business Administration, Employee Management, Menu Planning, Meal Presentation, Wine and Beverages, Baking, and Artistic Presentation. Keep in mind that the educational establishment that you choose may call the courses something different, but the basic material that they cover will include the same topics.

As a result of your training, you will learn many skills that are necessary for you to be prepared to work in a restaurant or other kitchen environment. Some of the areas where you will gain skills include the following: cooking, food preparation, kitchen sanitation, food preparation, wine and beverage selection, and meal planning. You will also gain management and business skills.

This degree is much more than a cooking degree. If all you were learning was cooking skills, you could learn this through practice and an internship at a local restaurant. Instead, you will learn the necessary cooking skills, but you will also gain knowledge in how to manage workers effectively and knowledge of how to run a business. Additionally, you will learn techniques in purchasing, inventory techniques, and negotiation.

Once you complete this degree program, entry level positions for someone who completes this degree successfully will typically earn between $9.39 and $11.13 per hour. A chef that manages their own restaurant will earn an average salary of $51,460 per year.

Competition in this field is intense, and this is definitely not a degree for the faint of heart. The pressure and stress levels are high, but when you see your customers enjoying their meals, the reward is beyond measure. Your job involves giving pleasure to others, and there is a special reward in this.
