What Kinds Of Jobs Can I Get With An Associates Degree In Fashion Design?

If you are creative and artistic, and you have a love of clothing, earning an Associate’s degree in Fashion Design may be the perfect fit for you. You will also learn about the history of fashion and textiles, as well as the way that the design business works in today’s business world. Once you graduate from this degree program, you will be fully prepared to work successfully anywhere in the field of design and apparel.

You will have numerous career opportunities when you enter the work force. One advantage to this degree is that you are limited only by your own creativity. Keep in mind that these are median salaries so your starting wage could be quite a bit different. Your compensation will also be dependent on the size and type of company that you go to work for. Unfortunately, according to the United States Bureau of Labor Statistics, the job market for fashion designers, purchasers, and buyers is expected to grow more slowly than the national average through the year 2014. Demand for demonstrators and product promoters is expected to increase at the average roughly the same as other jobs.

While earning this degree, you will take courses including those in pattern making, sewing, clothing construction, fashion illustration, textiles, and fashions business practices. When you graduate, you will have the skills that are necessary in order to be able to design a piece of clothing, create drawings that showcases your clothing, and create the clothing using the knowledge that you gained of textiles and sewing techniques. You will also learn about working in the professional world of fashion design.
