Working As An Admissions Representative Is Similar To A Sales Career

If you have ever considered working as an admissions representative, you will be working as a sales professional. The main purpose of this job is to market your school to potential customers (students and their parents). Some would think of this job as merely a clerical position, but it is so much more than that. You will not simply process applications and see who meets your requirements. You need to remember that every other educational facility is your competitor, just as their football team competes against yours on the football field. You will be selling your school to the public, just as a car dealer markets their brand.

A career as a college admissions representative is a very challenging and rewarding position. You are working to recruit students for the college, guiding them through the admissions process, and in getting them enrolled in an eligible degree or certificate program. In this position you will also work at marketing the school’s academic programs, conducting interviews with prospective students, giving tours of the campus, conducting public presentations at high schools and at local events in the community. We are now going to look at how you can become an admissions representative.

To begin the process of entering this field, you need to enroll in an undergraduate program at a university. In order to get your foot in the door, you will need to earn a bachelor’s degree in education, business, communications, or in a related field. While you are working toward this bachelor’s degree, it is important to take courses that will prepare you for a career as an admissions representative, including marketing and advertising, public speaking, English and writing, and computer technology. Your school academic counselor can help you to select the correct courses for you.

Once you complete your degree, it is a good idea to get some experience as a customer service representative. This will help you to get the necessary experience in sales and customer service. You will be doing a lot of work working at promoting, advertising, communicating, and networking with the general public, so you will need a solid foundation in this field. In order to be successful in this field, you will need to have good math and computer skills, excellent communication and phone skills, good presentation skills. You also should have an outgoing personality, be energetic, be available to travel, and be willing to have a flexible schedule.
