A Bookkeeping Clerk makes a solution that suits your business, small or large, so that you can concentrate on the growth of your business. A book keeping clerk is responsible for maintaining all financial records, keeping all the transitions of the company. The book keeper is expected to be most competent and experienced in many areas of the company’s daily financial operations.

Bookkeeping, accounting, and auditing clerks are in great demand with the fast growing economy of today. To set foot in this career, knowledge of bookkeeping practices, payroll requirements, accounting reports, and good communication and interpersonal skills are all valuable to have. To start off on this career, one needs to have at least a high school diploma but are often required to have an associate degree like Business or Accounting. A Bachelor’s degree is not required, unless you plan to advance to supervisory positions.

Financial record keeping, posting of debits and credits, preparing of reports and summaries for managers, preparing bank deposits, verifying and balancing of receipts, are all some of the duties performed by the bookkeeper in businesses.

Good high school credits in important subjects like English, Math, Computers, Accounting, Business, and Technology will pave the path in getting into a good bookkeeping school. You will perform a standardized test to know typing speed, comfort working with numbers, and accuracy. This program takes about a year or two to complete. You will be taught specialized programs, training in computerized accounting systems, pay sheet, and accounting and technology. Additionally, computer courses in word processing and spreadsheet software are very useful for this role.

Being a Certified Bookkeeper is a plus, as it says a lot about the skills and knowledge you possess to carry out this job. You will also be trained by an experienced employee on your job, so that you will be well aware of the company’s procedures. Your education will help you perform some of your important tasks like creating general ledger and investor’s monthly reports, ensure accuracy of accounts in accounts receivable and accounts payable, monitoring payroll taxes and payments on time, maintain company daybook and ledgers, maintain up to date vendor files and numbers are some of them.

You can expand your prospects as a Full-Charge Bookkeeper as this is a specialized career path. To be on top of today’s job market, you need to have good speaking and writing skills, be detail oriented, stay up to date on computer skills in the latest software used for accounting, like the QuickBooks and document scanning technology. This will help save time and make it easy to audit, track, record, and file information in the form of reports and transactions of the business. You can analyze a company’s finances and also advise on planning services to invest the money to give best returns.
