How to become a Midwife
The first step to becoming a midwife is deciding which type of midwife you want to be. The two main types of midwives are the nurse midwife and the direct entry midwife. Mary Breckinridge is noted to be the first nurse midwife in the United States. She received her training in England and returned to the U.S., hoping to help care for rural settlers in Kentucky back in 1925. Shorty after her return, Mary formed the Frontier Nursing Services organization that remains to this day although it was originally called the Kentucky Committee for Mothers and Babies.
